Three Kingdoms Gold Leaf Bookmark Collection — In Collaboration with Wuhou Shrine Museum

This exquisite bookmark collection brings to life four of the most iconic stories from the Three Kingdoms era: Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats, The Oath of the Peach Garden, The Battle of Red Cliff, and Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage. Each tale reflects virtues deeply rooted in Chinese culture—wisdom, loyalty, courage, and humility—captured through refined artistry and historical symbolism.

Created in collaboration with the Wuhou Shrine Museum in Chengdu, the spiritual home of Zhuge Liang and the heroes of Shu Han, the collection carries the cultural authority and legacy of one of China’s most treasured historical sites.

Every bookmark is crafted using authentic Jinling gold leaf from Nanjing, produced through a traditional gold-hammering technique recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China. Pure gold is transformed through twelve meticulous steps and nearly thirty thousand hammer strikes into delicate, radiant sheets—thin as a cicada’s wing and brilliant in color. The gold leaf artistry enhances each scene with a luminous texture, making every bookmark a miniature artwork.

Combining hollow-carved detailing, carefully applied colorwork, and historical storytelling, this series presents not only a functional bookmark but a refined keepsake of Chinese cultural heritage. It is a celebration of craftsmanship, history, and the timeless legends that continue to inspire across centuries.

⭐Historical and Cultural Story

Wuhou Shrine (Temple of Emperor Zhaolie)

A nationally protected cultural heritage site, a AAAA-rated tourist attraction, and a first-class national museum. Located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Wuhou Shrine was originally built in 223 AD alongside the mausoleum of Liu Bei. It is the only temple in China dedicated to both ruler and ministers, commemorating the legendary figures of the Shu Han kingdom, including Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. Today, it stands as the most renowned Three Kingdoms heritage museum in China, attracting visitors from across the nation and beyond.

【Borrowing Arrows with Straw Boats — Wisdom in the Fog】

During a critical moment of war, Zhuge Liang devised a brilliant strategy to obtain much-needed arrows. Predicting heavy fog on the river, he ordered boats covered in straw figures to sail toward the enemy. Mistaking the decoys for a real attack, the opposing army released countless arrows, which lodged safely into the straw. By daybreak, the boats returned fully supplied—won not through force, but through ingenuity and foresight.

【The Oath of the Peach Garden — Brotherhood for Life】

Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei met as strangers but shared the same ideals of loyalty, justice, and protection of the people. In a quiet peach garden in spring, they swore an oath of brotherhood, pledging to live and die together, though not born on the same day. Their bond became one of the most celebrated symbols of fraternity and honor in Chinese history.

【The Battle of Red Cliff — Fire That Changed an Era】

Facing a far stronger army, the allied forces of Liu Bei and Sun Quan stood united against Cao Cao’s massive fleet. Using the winds, the terrain, and clever strategy, the allies launched a daring fire attack that set the enemy ships ablaze. The victory at Red Cliff reshaped the balance of power and became a legendary example of courage, strategy, and decisive leadership.

【Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage — Humility Seeking Talent】

In pursuit of a wise advisor capable of guiding a kingdom, Liu Bei traveled three times to a remote cottage to meet Zhuge Liang. Despite being turned away twice, he persisted with sincerity and humility. Moved by his dedication, Zhuge Liang finally agreed to join him, marking the beginning of one of history’s most respected partnerships of ruler and strategist.
